Leinster League
The
Leinster League season consists of 3 competitions (shield,
league and cup). Each team consist of 3 players. For
each competition, players play one match a week. In
our club, home matches are played on Monday nights.
There is a prize giving ceremony at the end of the season
where individual and team trophies are presented.
The
Shield
This
is the first competition of the season. The Shield starts
in the middle of October and runs for 6 weeks. A Shield
group consists of 4 teams with teams playing each other
both home and away. Shield matches consist of 6 singles
and 3 doubles. Teams receieve 2 points for a win and
1 point for a draw.
The
League
The
league starts in early january and runs for 8 weeks.
The league groups are formed based on the results of
the Shield. In league, matches consist of 9 singles.
If the score is 5-4, a doubles match is played, allowing
for either a 5-5 draw or a 6-4 win.
The Cup
The
cup is the final competitin of the season and starts
a week after the end of the league. Teams are divided
into groups of 8. The results of the league are used
for ranking teams. The cup is a straight knockout competition.
All the cup finals are played on the same day in the
IWA sports hall. Cup matches consist of 9 sinlges and
3 doubles. If the score is 6-6, a final doubles is played.
A match is over when one team wins 7 games.
